Brief/Synopsis/Pitch.

The primary idea for this music video is to use child actors to pose as astronauts, dancing and singing along to the song in front a space montage. The atmosphere of the video is intended to be light-hearted and playful- explaining why a song with such minimal lyrics is being used, and why the kids are in very low-budget costumes, on an even lower-budget set. This is intended to be juxtaposed with the somewhat more technical scenes of adults controlling the ‘flight’ in the mission control centre. The intended meaning of my video is that it should be interpreted as a metaphor for the dynamic relationship between children and the adults that try to control them.

The song uses real samples from the Apollo 11 Space Launch, and is largely based on the go-no-go procedure before NASA launches. For example, in the actual launch, and subsequently the song, mission control asks the astronauts ‘Retro?’ to which the astronaut responsible replies ‘Go’ if it is ready. This continues throughout the chorus, growing more passionate and intense as the song develops.

My vision of this part (the chorus) is to have a split screen, with one half having the astronaut actors in front of a large blank wall, with galaxy and space footage being projected over them as they dance and mess around. The other half will have an actor wearing a headset in the mission control centre with this space footage glaring onto their face as if they are watching it on a screen. To achieve the look of being in Mission Control I will most likely film this part close up in a sound recording studio at school. The administrator will ask the questions, e.g. ‘Retro?’, while the kids respond ‘Go!’, cutting each shot between each child, while the administrators parts are taken in largely one take, with a nervous/panicked expression to contrast the kids’ excitement.

The instrumental parts of the song will be filled with footage of the children dancing, often split screening or cutting to the antics of the mission control centre. I.e. pushing buttons, handling paperwork, or speaking lines such as ‘This is Apollo Control at 102 hours into the flight of Apollo 11, It's grown quite quiet here in Mission Control’ into microphone pieces.
