How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I photographed pieces on set of the main production scene of my music video. All of my ancillary texts include imagery and iconography from the 'space scene' in my main product as I felt this reflected my intended meaning well. In terms of audience reception theory, my main product is intended to be interpreted as a goofy, 'B roll footage' type piece, it is intentionally rough around the edges. I planned it to be that way. By using images of the child actors in my ancillary texts, which are far more polished and refined than my main product, I am juxtaposing the two concepts of professionalism and spontaneous, raw creativity; whilst also incorporating the main theme of my entire project, which was the idea of childhood innocence and being able to flourish, despite being under adult supervision.

When watching back on my main product, I hope it can be noticed that my intended meaning as creative director and producer is that I represented the song to
be about the beauty of childhood and being able to freely ignore authority to have fun and flourish. Nothing is too 'ambitious', even dancing in space. The child actors present this, and the adults, looking concerned and giving out orders from 'mission control' represent the idea of 'helicopter parents'.

In regards to the combination of my main product and ancillary texts, the images of the children now represent the idea of childhood fun and creativity and the sleek black casing, with professional typography represents the authoritative adults that attempt to hold, control and maintain them. This is clearly evident in both my digipak and my website.

It was important for me to have a consistent colour palette throughout. I dedicated a lot of time into creating the video-map that would be projected over my cast, as well as finding the perfect mission control footage that reflected my cinematography vision. The montage can be found here. I incorporated a wide variety of colours and patterns in my video-map and chose to base my ancillary texts around blue and purple palettes for a sleeker, more simplistic look that wasn't so
harsh on the eyes. The merging of simply two unconventional colours with professional elements of black, white and grey accents and typography presents my ancillary texts as professional pieces, whilst also indicating that my main text is a creative and vibrant work of art.
I kept elements such as font and general aesthetic concepts consistent across all of my project texts. I think the combination of my main product and ancillary texts is effective as I believe each of my products incorporates my intended meaning and the two themes I had planned from the beginning, the relationship between childhood and adulthood. In my main product, the concept of childhood is presented in the format of my child actors,
dancing in space. And the concept of adulthood is reflected in the format of the two mission control officers. Their relationship is presented through the actor's body language and the lyrics of the song, whereby the adults in mission control are clearly concerned, giving out instructions. Whereas the children portraying the astronauts are shown to be dancing, carefree and happy. To present these themes in my ancillary texts, I used imagery of the children, encased in professional and sleek media formats, that represent the adult authority trying to control them. Ultimately I feel that the combination of my main product and ancillary texts is extremely effective.
