Inspirations and Influences
Irma's 'Save Me' video is shot entirely in one take, live mapping the sequence and content of the video continuously, allowing dancers to choreograph their movements along with the projected footage, becoming a part of it.
Xavier Maignon came up with the idea for this video, where it was directed along with Marc-Antoine Hélard. The French company 'Superbien' directed the videomapping, their showreels being a huge inspiration to me in regards to the construction of my own videomap.
Gathering inspiration from the Superbien showreels informed me how to construct the most effective video for projection. I was able to observe that the best videos were synchronised and on beat to music, with the speed of the footage matching the tempo of the song. And any cuts of footage being placed on a snare or significant beat of the song. Similar colour palettes to achieve consistent cinematography was also an effective feature.
Creative Directors Ted and Justin created a video on how to use projector effects efficiently, which I have incorporated into my plan. They advised levelling the projector at an angle to avoid shadows and using a fog machine to capture the shapes within the light that is being projected.
Willow, 'Sweater', like Irma's video, incorporates videomapping technique, making it interactive with the use of a treadmill and seating arrangements to create exciting visual illusions. This inspired me to consider using other setting props, most likely a cardboard rocket ship, to liven up my set and make it more visually interesting.
